K2 is about as modern as a crystal can be. It was introduced to the trade only in the last couple of decades, named for the mountain it comes from, and it appears in no classical source; Cunningham has no entry, and there is no folk record. We file its attributions as contemporary and leave element and planet blank rather than inventing them.

What modern practice has made of it follows straightforwardly from how it looks: a grounded, earthy granite with sky-blue flecks scattered through it, which the tradition reads as the two registers held together, the feet on the ground and the head somewhere higher. It is kept for clear thinking and for the kind of practice that stays practical. Worn as a bracelet, that register goes where you go, which is the whole point of a stone on the wrist.

What is K2 actually?

Are the blue spots lapis or afghanite?

Neither. They are azurite, a copper mineral. The confusion is common in the trade, but lapis and afghanite are different minerals entirely, and we would rather say so.
