Collection: Ruby Zoisite

Ruby zoisite is two gemstones in one rock. Opaque red ruby crystals sit inside bright green zoisite, often with streaks of black hornblende between them, and the contrast is so vivid it looks designed. It was not. The stone was discovered in 1954 near Longido in northern Tanzania, which remains the only significant source in the world, and it is also called anyolite, from the Maasai word for green. Carvers love it because the colors let them cut a red flower on a green leaf from a single piece. In crystal lore it joins the fire of ruby to the growth of green zoisite: passion and patience in the same stone. At Plentiful Earth we carry ruby zoisite as raw stones by the pound, polished palm stones, obelisks, massage wands, and beaded bracelets.

What Is Ruby Zoisite Used For?

Ruby zoisite works at the heart and root chakras together, and its lore is about vitality: finding your spark again after a draining stretch, reconnecting with what you love, and keeping your own identity inside a relationship or a group. Ruby brings courage and life force; zoisite brings growth and the patience to let things take their time. Practitioners use it for creative work that needs stamina, for grief that has gone on long enough, and for couples work.

Zoisite is about 6.5 on the Mohs scale and ruby is 9, so polished pieces are durable and safe to rinse. The difference in hardness means rough pieces can be uneven, which is part of their character.
