Real feldspar variation. Amazonite naturally shows white streaking and color banding. Points will differ from each other noticeably, which is how you know you are looking at stone rather than dyed substitute.

• Feldspar has good cleavage, meaning it splits cleanly along internal planes if knocked. Amazonite chips more readily than quartz despite similar hardness. Do not drop it on tile.
• Avoid prolonged soaking. Water will not destroy the stone, but it collects in the wire cage and encourages tarnish and corrosion at the contact points.
• Color can fade with sustained direct sunlight. A windowsill is not the best long-term home.

A quick correction first, because it appears everywhere: amazonite is not found in the Amazon and never was. The name is an eighteenth century misattribution that stuck, and the material almost certainly came from elsewhere entirely. It is a good reminder that a stone's trade name often tells you nothing true about it.

What is genuinely attested is Egyptian use. Amazonite beads, amulets, and inlay turn up in real archaeological contexts, worked as a prized green stone alongside turquoise and feldspar generally. That is documented history rather than metaphysical folklore, and it is the deepest verifiable root the stone has.

Beyond that, most of what circulates about amazonite is twentieth century in origin, with the throat and communication associations coming out of modern crystal literature rather than any older tradition. That contemporary practice is real and widely held; it simply is not ancient, and we would rather draw the line honestly than blur it.

1. Pick your cord and hang one. Waxed cotton, leather, and fine chain all thread through the wire loop without any additional fitting.
2. If your practice associates the stone with speech, many practitioners wear it at throat length and hold it while saying something difficult out loud.
3. Place the remaining points at the corners of a working, or at the compass points around a candle, using the set as a set rather than splitting it up.
4. Cleanse with smoke, sound, moonlight, or a selenite plate. Skip long water soaks, mainly for the sake of the wire rather than the stone.
5. Store wrapped or in a soft pouch, apart from harder stones. Feldspar chips at the edges and the points are the vulnerable part.

Will all five look the same?

No, and they should not. Amazonite varies naturally in color depth and in how much white feldspar streaking runs through it. Expect five clearly different points. Uniform, flawless, evenly colored stones are the ones worth being suspicious of.

Does it come with a chain?

No, cords and chains are sold separately. The wire cage has a loop at the top that takes waxed cotton, leather thong, or fine chain without needing any extra fitting or jump ring.

Can I get it wet?

Brief contact is fine for the stone itself. The reason to avoid soaking is the wire, which traps moisture at the contact points and tarnishes. Wipe it dry after any exposure and it will hold up well.

Is amazonite from the Amazon?

No. The name is an old misattribution that has simply stuck around. The stone is a green microcline feldspar found in a number of places, none of which is the Amazon basin. The trade name is genuinely just wrong.

Why is mine paler than the photo?

Natural variation, and possibly light exposure. Amazonite ranges from deep blue-green to quite pale, and sustained direct sunlight will fade it over time. Store it out of a sunny window if you want to keep the color it arrived with.
