Natural veining. White streaking and patches of paler matrix are normal in anhydrite, and they are one of the signs you are looking at real stone rather than a dyed substitute.

• Never immerse in water and never make an elixir with it. Water chemically alters anhydrite and will damage the stone permanently.
• Cleanse by dry methods only: smoke, sound, moonlight, dry salt, or a selenite plate.
• Soft at roughly 3.5 Mohs, which is softer than a steel blade. Store apart from harder stones, which will scratch it in a shared pouch.
• Remove before showering, swimming, washing up, and exercise. Sweat and humidity both count.

Angelite is a modern stone and we would rather be plain about that. Blue anhydrite was identified as a distinct decorative material in the twentieth century, and the name angelite is a trade name coined for the metaphysical market. There is no folk tradition behind it, no entry in Cunningham, and no inherited body of practice to draw on.

What does exist is a well established contemporary use. Practitioners work angelite as a stone of calm and of communication, most often associated with the throat, and it turns up widely in meditative and devotional practice where a quieting influence is wanted. That is real, and it is held by a great many people. It is simply recent.

Recent does not mean hollow. It does mean that if someone tells you angelite was used by an ancient tradition, they are making it up.

1. Cleanse dry before first wear. Smoke, a selenite plate, sound, or a night under the moon. Never water, and never salt water.
2. Thread a cord through the wire loop. Waxed cotton, leather, and fine chain all work without an extra fitting.
3. Wear one during quiet work rather than active work. Angelite suits meditation, journaling, and devotional practice more than high-energy ritual.
4. Place the remaining points at the corners of a working or around a candle if you use the set as a set.
5. Store each piece in its own pouch, away from harder stones. At 3.5 Mohs almost everything else in your collection will mark it.

Can I cleanse these in water?

No, and this is the most important thing on the page. Angelite is anhydrite, and water converts it toward gypsum. Even a short soak dulls and pits the stone, and a long one destroys it. Use smoke, sound, moonlight, dry salt, or selenite instead.

Do they come with chains?

No, cords and chains are sold separately. The wire cage has a loop at the top that takes waxed cotton, leather thong, or fine chain without needing a jump ring or any other fitting.

Will all five look the same?

No. Angelite varies in depth of blue and in how much white veining runs through it, so expect five clearly different pieces. Uniform, flawless, evenly colored stones are the ones worth questioning.

Is angelite really connected to angels?

The name is a twentieth century trade name coined for the metaphysical market rather than anything inherited. Plenty of practitioners work it that way today and find it useful. We just will not tell you the association is ancient, because it is not.

Why does it scratch so easily?

Because it is genuinely soft, around 3.5 on the Mohs scale, far softer than quartz. Keys, other jewelry, and most stones in a shared pouch will all mark it. Keep each piece stored separately.
