• Plating is a surface layer. With heavy wear it will thin at the contact points and let the brass show through, which is normal for plated findings at this price.
• Brass beneath the plate may cause a green mark on skin once the plating wears, and may not suit anyone sensitive to base metals. Choose sterling or stainless for daily-wear pieces.

Not much, and we would rather say that plainly than invent something. These are jewelry findings. They have no traditional correspondences, no elemental attribution, and no history in any magical practice, because they are hardware.

What does carry weight is the making. A great many traditions hold that a tool you assembled yourself, with intention, sits differently in the hand than one bought finished, and mounting a stone you selected onto a cord you chose is exactly that kind of act. The coil is the means, not the meaning.

If it matters to your practice, the stone you set in it is where the correspondences live. Choose that with care and let the bail be a bail.

1. Choose a point or tumble with a shape the spiral can actually grip. Roughly parallel sides work; a smooth teardrop will slip straight out.
2. Ease the coil open by turning the spiral rather than prying it apart. Levering it deforms the wire and you will not get a clean close.
3. Seat the stone and wind the coil closed around it, checking the grip by holding the bail and letting the stone hang free.
4. Thread your cord or chain through the loop at the top. Leather, waxed cotton, and fine chain all work.
5. If your practice includes it, cleanse and set the finished piece as a whole rather than the components separately.

Will these hold a heavy stone?

Within reason. They are sized for small points and tumbles, and a genuinely heavy piece will gradually work the spiral open. Test the grip by hanging the finished piece and giving it a gentle shake before you trust it to a cord around your neck.

Do they need a drilled hole in the stone?

No, and that is the point of them. The spiral grips the outside of the stone by tension, so undrilled points and raw tumbles can be mounted and later freed without any permanent alteration to the stone.

Will the silver plating wear off?

Eventually, at the points that rub. Plated findings are a surface layer over brass, and with daily wear it will thin and let the base metal through. For pieces meant to be worn constantly, sterling or stainless is the better investment.

Will they turn my skin green?

They can, once the plating wears through to the brass. That reaction is harmless and washes off, but it does happen. If you know you react to base metals, use these for display or occasional pieces rather than everyday wear.

Can I reuse them?

Once or twice, carefully. Every open-and-close cycle work-hardens the wire slightly, and eventually it will kink or snap rather than spiral. At twenty-four to a pack it is usually simpler to use a fresh one.
