Every bead is different. Mookaite's banding varies piece to piece and stone to stone. The bracelet you receive will not match the photograph, and that is the material rather than a flaw.

Genuinely Australian. Mookaite is found in one region of Western Australia and nowhere else, which makes it one of the more geographically honest stones in the trade.

Mookaite has no entry in the older sources. It does not appear in Cunningham, it carries no traditional planetary or elemental attribution, and it has no folk lineage behind it. It reached the crystal trade in the twentieth century, and everything said about it is modern. We would rather tell you that than assign it correspondences it never had.

What contemporary practice associates it with is steadiness and decision. It is spoken of as a grounding stone, worked when a choice needs making and the ground under it feels unstable. Practitioners tend to reach for it in the middle of things rather than at the beginning or the end: not for the vision and not for the celebration, but for the long, unglamorous stretch where you have to keep choosing.

The stone comes from Aboriginal land, and it is worth saying plainly that we are not attaching an Aboriginal tradition to it. Any such claim you see attached to mookaite in the crystal trade should be treated with suspicion. It is a beautiful Australian rock with a modern reputation, and it does not need a borrowed lineage to be worth wearing.

1. Wear it when a decision is pending. That is the working most practitioners describe: a stone for the deciding rather than the dreaming.
2. Set an intention when you put it on. Name the choice. Wearing a stone with a question attached is a different act from wearing it as jewelry.
3. Cleanse it dry. Smoke, sound, or moonlight. Elastic and water are not friends, and repeated soaking will shorten the band's life long before it does anything to the stone.
4. Stack it if you like. The 4mm size is built for it. Many wearers pair it with a second stone chosen for a different quality.
5. Roll it on and off gently. Elastic bands fail from being stretched over a knuckle, not from wear. Roll rather than pull.

What actually is mookaite? A radiolarite: sedimentary rock formed from the silica skeletons of marine microorganisms, stained by iron minerals into its characteristic reds and ochres. It is found only in the Mooka Creek region of Western Australia.

Will it look like the photo? Not exactly. Mookaite's banding varies from bead to bead, and every bracelet is a different arrangement of color.

Is there an Aboriginal tradition behind it? Not one we will claim. The stone is Australian, but its spiritual reputation is a modern crystal-trade construction, and attaching an Indigenous lineage to it would be a borrowed authority we have no right to.

How do I keep the elastic from breaking? Roll it on and off rather than stretching it over your knuckles, and keep it out of water. Elastic bands almost always fail at the stretch, not from age.
