Satin spar gypsum, the mineral the whole trade sells as selenite and we name plainly, takes carving beautifully, and the drop is the family's most deliberate shape: a teardrop with a point, which the altar custom naturally aims, toward the working, the photograph, the door, wherever the arrangement's attention goes. The crystal tradition files selenite under cleansing and rests other stones in its dishes to clear and recharge them between workings, a custom we pass on as the tradition it is. The drop suits the practitioner whose altar is an arrangement with a direction. The bowl charges nothing on its own, as we say plainly; it gives the resting custom a point to aim.
