What the trade sells as selenite is satin spar gypsum, named plainly here as everywhere on our shelf: the fibrous, silk-lustered form of the mineral, soft, water-shy, and glowing like nothing else in the case. The crystal tradition files it under cleansing and reaches for selenite dishes as resting places for other stones, the custom holding that a stone laid in selenite is cleared and recharged between workings, a tradition we pass on as the tradition it is. At 2 inches this is the family's ring dish: the bedside catch for the day's jewelry, the rest for one working stone, the single-offering dish on a small altar. The bowl charges nothing on its own, as we say plainly; it gives the custom its brightest resting place at the smallest size.
