Rowan is the guardian tree of the British and Norse folk record: planted at thresholds and churchyards, its red-berried crosses hung over doors and byres, the wood carried against ill-wishing across centuries of island and highland custom. The tradition read the berry's tiny five-pointed star and its flame-red color as the tree's credentials, and rowan's protective reputation outlasted most of its neighbors' folklore. This print sets that inheritance in a frame: Bowman's prayer beneath Alexander's knotwork rendering, a wall piece that names the old custom rather than performing it. The paper guards no threshold on its own, as we say plainly of the poster shelf; it keeps the protection tree's long story in daily view.
