Water has stood for the emotional and intuitive side of things across most of the traditions the Western craft draws on: the element of feeling, reflection, and the unconscious, and the one associated with the West and with dusk. A lake in particular is water at rest, neither the sea's force nor the river's motion, and the stillness is the whole image. Practitioners have long used water as a scrying surface for exactly that reason: a mind at rest reflects clearly, and so does a lake.

A prayer print like this one keeps that image in view. Some hang it in a meditation corner as a reminder to settle; others use it as part of a water-element altar, or simply enjoy the picture. How you read it is up to you and your own path; the print holds the image and the words, and the rest is yours.

1. Choose a spot where you will actually look at it: above an altar, beside a reading chair, or where you sit to settle.
