Every stone is unique. Moldavite is raw natural glass. No two pieces share a shape, a shade, or a surface texture, and yours will not match the photograph exactly.

Not a mineral. Amorphous glass with no crystal lattice. The trade calls it a crystal out of habit. We would rather tell you what it is.

Moldavite has no folk tradition. No entry in Cunningham, no elemental or planetary attribution in the older sources, no lineage of practice at all. Everything said about it is modern, dating to its entry into the crystal trade in the late twentieth century, where it acquired with unusual speed a reputation as the most intense stone in the shop.

What practitioners describe is disruption, not comfort: acceleration, abrupt change, the collapse of arrangements that were not holding, and the clarity that arrives once they have gone. Worn moldavite is treated more carefully than loose moldavite for the obvious reason that a ring stays on. It is the hardest form of this stone to put down, and that is exactly why the tradition's caution applies to it most.

The moldavite flush, the heat or pressure some report on first contact, is lore. We pass it along as something practitioners say rather than as a promise about your experience.

1. Short wear first. An hour, then take it off. Extend only if you want to. The counsel against sustained early wear is close to unanimous in the modern literature.
2. Keep something grounding within reach. Black tourmaline or hematite. Anchor before you accelerate.
3. Take it off to sleep. The single piece of moldavite advice that everyone agrees on, whatever they think the mechanism is.
4. Remove it for anything physical. Moldavite is glass. It chips against hard surfaces and the etched texture scratches easily.
5. Clean it dry. A soft cloth. No ultrasonic cleaner, no salt, no soaking.

The Ries impact struck what is now Bavaria roughly fifteen million years ago. The crater is still there, about fifteen miles across, with the town of Nordlingen sitting inside it. The strike melted the surface rock and threw part of it hundreds of kilometers east, where it cooled into glass in flight.

Bohemian farmers have turned the pieces up in their fields for centuries, and worked moldavite appears in Stone Age sites as amulets. The impulse to wear this material is older than the trade that made it famous.

How can I tell if a piece of moldavite is genuine? Specific gravity is the strongest home test: real moldavite runs about 2.32 to 2.40, while common green bottle glass sits nearer 2.5, and a kitchen scale with water displacement will get you close enough to catch a fake. The surface should be hackly and deeply etched rather than smooth, with no mold seams. Under magnification, genuine material shows elongated wormlike silica threads and irregular bubbles; glass fakes show perfectly round ones. Price is the fourth signal, since moldavite is expensive for the honest reason that it is finite.

Is moldavite a meteorite? No. It is terrestrial rock melted by an impact and thrown clear. What came from space was the energy, not the material.

How adjustable is the band? It opens and closes to fit a range of finger sizes, so you do not need to know your ring size to order.

Can I wear it every day? Not at first, is the tradition's answer. Wear it short, take it off to sleep, and see how it sits with you. Many practitioners never move to daily wear, and a ring is the hardest form to walk back from.

Will my stone look like the photo? No. Every piece of raw moldavite is different in shape, shade, and texture. The variation is the material, not a defect.
