Magnetic Hematite Bracelet

This bracelet contains magnets. If you wear a pacemaker or another implanted or sensitive medical device, keep magnetic jewelry away from it as a general precaution. Beyond that, magnetic hematite is safe to wear as ordinary jewelry: it is the medical claims sometimes attached to it, not the material, that we take issue with, and those are addressed below.

The shiny grey beads people picture as hematite, when they are strongly magnetic, are not natural hematite. The material is a manufactured magnetic compound, usually a synthetic ferrite, sold as magnetic hematite, hematine, or hemalyke.

The name is the giveaway. Natural hematite is only very weakly magnetic and will not stick to a fridge. If beads cling firmly to a magnet or each other, the material is manufactured. This is not a defect; it is simply what magnetic hematite is, and many practitioners work it just as they would mined stone. We only insist that you know what you are buying.

Magnetic hematite bracelets are often sold with claims about blood flow, circulation, and pain relief. We are not going to repeat them, because the evidence does not support them: controlled studies of static magnets for circulation and pain have not shown a reliable effect. If you have seen those claims elsewhere, that is where they belong, elsewhere. This is a grounding-themed piece of jewelry, and that is how we sell it.

Natural hematite is a cornerstone grounding stone. Cunningham seats the mineral under Saturn and Fire, naming grounding and divination among its powers, and Judy Hall places it at the root. Those associations belong to the mined stone. Whether they carry to a manufactured lookalike is something practitioners honestly disagree on: some bring the full grounding intention to magnetic hematite, others keep it as jewelry and reserve ritual work for natural stone. Both are reasonable, and the choice is yours to make knowingly.
