The shiny grey beads most people picture as hematite, when they are strongly magnetic, are not natural hematite. The material is a manufactured magnetic compound, usually a synthetic ferrite, sold as magnetic hematite, hematine, or hemalyke.

The name itself is the giveaway. Natural hematite is only very weakly magnetic and will not stick to a fridge. If beads cling firmly to a magnet or to one another, the material is manufactured. This is not a fault; it is simply what magnetic hematite is, and it is priced as such. Many practitioners work it just as they would mined stone. We only insist on one thing: that you know what you are buying.

Natural hematite is a cornerstone grounding stone. Cunningham seats the mineral under Saturn and the element of Fire, naming grounding and divination among its powers, and Judy Hall places it at the root. Those associations belong to the mined stone.

Whether they transfer to a manufactured lookalike is something practitioners honestly disagree about. Some bring the full grounding intention to magnetic hematite and find it works for them; others keep it as jewelry and reserve ritual work for natural stone. We would rather set out the disagreement than pretend it is resolved, and let you decide where you stand.

1. Cleanse it dry. Smoke, sound, or a rest on selenite, rather than salt water.
2. Set an intention. Hold it, breathe, and name the grounding or focus you are wearing it for.
3. Wear it as a daily anchor. A small steadying presence on the ankle through the day.
4. Keep it dry. Off before bathing or swimming, to hold the finish.
5. Roll it on and off. Elastic gives out at the stretch, not from wear.

Is this natural hematite? No. It is magnetic hematite, a manufactured material also called hematine or hemalyke. The strong magnetism is the proof, since mined hematite is only weakly magnetic.

How do I tell? The magnet test. Firm cling means manufactured. Natural hematite will not grip a fridge.

Can I use it for grounding work? Many do; some prefer mined stone for ritual. Both are reasonable, and the choice is yours to make knowingly.

Are the magnets a concern? They are ordinary bead magnets. As a general precaution, keep magnetic jewelry away from pacemakers and other sensitive medical devices.

How do I care for it? Keep it dry, cleanse with smoke or selenite, and take it off to bathe or swim.
