Libra runs from late September to late October, the cardinal sign of autumn, opening at the equinox when day and night are exactly equal. That is not a coincidence in the symbolism: the sign of the Scales begins on the one day of the year when the scales of light and dark are level. Astrology assigns it to Venus, to the element Air, and to the cardinal modality, and reads it for balance, judgment, partnership, and the aesthetic sense.
