A mixed bag is an honest thing to sell and an honest thing to buy, provided nobody pretends to know what is in it. We do not, and the correspondences of any given piece depend entirely on what that piece turns out to be, so we assign none here.

What a pound of raw stone is good for is the practical business of practice: filling a grid, weighting a spell bottle, giving to students or to children, and having material to hand when a working calls for something and you would rather not break into a good specimen. There is also the plain pleasure of sorting a bag of rocks, which is a real thing and needs no defending.

1. Cleanse the batch on arrival with smoke or moonlight; be cautious with water and salt, since you will not know which stones dislike them.
2. Sort them out and identify what you can, which is half the fun of a mixed lot.
3. Use the pieces you cannot identify for the jobs that do not require you to: grid filler, bottle weight, pouch stock.
4. Give them away. A bag of rocks is one of the best things you can hand a curious child.
5. Store them dry, and keep the sharper pieces away from the softer ones.
