Here is the honest version. Lemuria was a hypothetical sunken landmass proposed by a zoologist in 1864 to explain why lemur fossils turned up in both Madagascar and India. Plate tectonics later explained it properly, and the hypothesis was abandoned. But in between, Theosophy adopted Lemuria as a lost spiritual civilization, and from there it passed into the New Age vocabulary, and eventually onto the crystal shelf as a name for striated quartz points said to be encoded with the wisdom of that civilization.

There was no Lemuria. The striations are a growth feature, formed as the crystal grew in stages. What is true is that quartz is the crystal shelf's genuine workhorse: the amplifier, the blank slate, the stone that takes whatever intention you give it and holds it. Modern practice keeps the striated points for meditation and for the sense of something patterned to trace with a thumb, and we pass that along as the contemporary practice it is, without the sunken continent.

1. Cleanse the batch on arrival with smoke, moonlight, or a rinse; quartz is hardy and tolerates most methods.
2. Trace a thumb along the striations while you sit, which is the practice most of the lore comes down to.
3. Scatter points through a grid, where small quartz is the standard amplifier.
