The runes predate the first century of the common era as the letters of the Germanic peoples, cut into wood and stone for messages, memorials, and, by the oldest accounts, for the diviner's lot-casting. The alphabet organizes into three rows of eight, the aetts, traditionally named for Freyr, Hagal, and Tyr, and this print lays out all three with each rune's name at hand, which is precisely what a learner's wall wants: the whole system visible while the memorization settles. It hangs as handsomely over a casting table as over a desk. The paper divines nothing on its own, as we say plainly of the poster shelf; it keeps the whole old alphabet in view while the letters make their way into memory.
