All three of this object's ideas are modern, and we would rather tell you that than dress them in a borrowed antiquity.

The merkaba, as a personal energy field of counter-rotating tetrahedra, comes from late-twentieth-century New Age teaching rather than from ancient Egypt, whatever the marketing says; the Hebrew word merkavah, chariot, belongs to a quite different and much older mystical tradition that these objects borrow the name from. Orgone descends from Wilhelm Reich's mid-twentieth-century idea of a universal life energy, and modern orgonite, resin with metal and stone, was developed later still, in the early 2000s. Peridot is the one genuinely old element here: a real gem-quality olivine, the August birthstone, which Judy Hall places at the heart.

What the object actually is, then, is a piece of modern devotional craft: a pleasing, symbolically dense pendulum. As a divination tool it works the way any pendulum works, by giving small unconscious movements something to express through, which is a real and useful thing and does not require any of the surrounding energy claims to be literally true. We are not going to tell you it cleanses toxins from your body. It is a pendulum, and a nice one.

1. Cleanse it dry. Smoke, sound, or moonlight. Resin and salt water do not mix well.
2. Find your yes and no. Hold it still and ask the pendulum to show you yes, then no. Everyone's are different; learn yours before you ask anything real.
3. Ask clear questions. A pendulum answers yes/no and direction well and open questions badly. Keep them simple.
4. Hold it steady and let it move. The movement is small and it comes from you, which is the point, not a flaw.
5. Keep it from knocking. Resin is durable but the peridot chips and the points can chip on a hard edge.
