It is worth being straightforward about the sage. White sage, Salvia apiana, is native to Southern California and Baja and has been used ceremonially by the Chumash, Cahuilla, and other Indigenous peoples for generations. Its popularity in the spiritual market has created real conservation pressure and real questions about appropriation, and those traditions belong to those communities rather than to the market. Burn it thoughtfully and sparingly, or reach for lavender instead, which the kit also gives you.

Lavender is long tied to peace and rest, and rose and rose quartz to love and the heart. Cunningham seats rose under Venus and Water. Together they set a gentle tone once a space has been cleared. 1. Ready the shell. Set the abalone shell on its stand on a heat-safe surface, and open a window so cleared air has somewhere to go.
2. Light the sage. Light the tip, let it catch, then blow it out so it smolders.
3. Cleanse the space. Waft the smoke toward corners and doorways, naming what you are releasing.
4. Warm it. Once clear, hold the rose quartz and name the calm and love you are inviting.
5. Extinguish safely. Rest the bundle in the shell, press it out fully when finished, and never leave it burning unattended.
