Lightworker is a modern term, and it is worth knowing that. It belongs to the New Age current that took shape through the twentieth century, drawing on Theosophy, Spiritualism, and a wide range of borrowed vocabulary, and it describes people who understand their purpose as raising the general condition of things through healing and service. Ascended masters, likewise, are a Theosophical idea rather than an ancient one.

None of that makes the practice worthless; it makes it recent, which is a different thing, and a practitioner who knows the difference works more honestly.
