Goddess decks work by archetype: the figure on the card is not a portrait but a stance, a way of meeting a situation. Neves draws hers from warriors, goddesses, and witches, which is a deliberately unsentimental range, and the deck is aimed at courage rather than comfort.

Where such decks draw on deities from living traditions, it is worth remembering they are being used as archetypes rather than approached devotionally, and those are different things. Take the cards as images to think against: an oracle gives you a stance to try on, and what you make of it stays yours.
