Is opalite real opal?

No. Opalite is man-made opalescent glass. Opal is a genuine mineral with its own fire and its own price, and the two should never be confused; here they are not.

Is it the same as moonstone?

No. Moonstone is a mined feldspar whose glow comes from inside the stone. Opalite's glow is a property of manufactured glass. Both are lovely; only one came out of the ground.

What is opalite kept for?
