Capping mala beads in metal is an old ornamenting custom, the seed's rough crown ringed in brightness, and on rudraksha the effect is particular: Rudra's tears, as the tradition names the seeds of Shiva's own tree, each given a small golden collar, the devotional strand in its dressed form. The practice it serves is unchanged, japa's one-bead-per-mantra count drawn through thumb and middle finger, and the caps add a fingertip landmark to the draw along with the shine. The deeper protocols of rudraksha, mukhi counts and consecrations, remain the tradition's own to teach, said plainly as ever. The strand keeps the count; the devotion stays the practitioner's.

What is rudraksha?

The seed of Elaeocarpus trees, sacred in Shaiva Hindu tradition as Rudra's tears: Shiva's own bead, strung for devotion across many centuries.

What do the caps do?
