Crystal singing bowls are made by fusing silica into a frosted vessel, reconstituted crystal in the trade's honest language, and the rainbow varieties add an iridescent surface coating for the aurora sheen. The singing is real physics: friction from a circling mallet sets the rim vibrating, the vibration sustains into a tone you feel as much as hear, and practitioners build meditation and sound sessions around exactly that enveloping quality. Ours is tuned to whatever note its making gave it, which suits solo practice fine and matched sets poorly, and we say so. 1. Set the bowl on its cushion on a stable surface.
2. Strike the rim gently with the mallet for a bell tone, or circle the rim with even pressure until the singing rises.
3. Slow the circling to let the tone sustain and decay naturally.
