Protection is the condition-oil formulary's founding department: the blend named for its purpose and applied to whatever holds the line. In practice that means white or black candles dressed before warding rituals, amulets and mojo bags fed a drop as they take up their posts, protective sachets touched before they hang over the door, and the thin line drawn along doorframes and windowsills in the threshold custom kept from Hoodoo to European folk practice. Protection blends run herbal and resinous in the tradition, the rue, rosemary, and frankincense register.
