The moon goddess is one of the oldest and most widespread figures in human religion, from Selene and Luna in the Greco-Roman world to the many lunar deities of other traditions. A skirt carrying her imagery is a way of wearing that association: not a ritual tool in itself, but a garment that many practitioners like to wear for circles, sabbats, and gatherings, or simply because they like the moon.

We are not going to tell you the skirt does energy work. It is clothing, and good clothing is its own justification. What it offers is the pleasure of wearing something that reflects your practice, in a fabric that moves well and is comfortable to spend an evening in.

1. Hand wash cold. Rayon batik is best washed gently and separately the first few times, as batik dyes can bleed.
2. Do not wring. Press the water out and hang or lay flat to dry.
3. Cool iron if needed. Rayon scorches easily, so keep the iron low.
4. Skip the salt cleanses. Whatever you do with stones, this is a garment; treat it like one and wash it rather than smudging it.

What is batik? A wax-resist dyeing method: wax is applied to the cloth, which then resists the dye, so the pattern is dyed into the fabric rather than printed on the surface. It gives batik its characteristic depth and slight variation piece to piece.

How does it fit? The drawstring waist adjusts to a range of sizes. The skirt is about 42 inches long with a generous 56-inch hem, so it drapes and moves rather than sitting close.

How do I wash it? Hand wash cold and hang to dry. Batik dyes can bleed at first, so wash it separately the first few times, and use a cool iron if any is needed.

Is it see-through? Rayon batik is lightweight but the black is opaque in normal wear. As with any lightweight skirt, a slip is an option if you prefer.

Will the pattern be exactly like the photo? Batik varies slightly piece to piece, which is part of the character of the method. Yours will be close but not identical.
