Agate is one of the most commonly dyed stones in the trade, and druzy pieces in vivid or unnatural colors, bright blue, magenta, gold, are frequently either dyed or given a fine metallic coating rather than colored by nature. Natural agate runs to grays, whites, browns, soft blues, and banded earth tones. If your heart is in a natural palette it is likely untreated; if it is a vivid or metallic color, treat that as enhancement rather than natural color. We would rather you know how to read it than assume. None of this makes the piece less lovely; it just makes the description honest.

Agate is one of the old steadying stones.
