The Triple Goddess as Maiden, Mother, and Crone is a modern formulation, and it is worth knowing that rather than assuming otherwise. Robert Graves gave it its shape in The White Goddess in 1948, drawing on older triple-goddess figures across European myth but arranging them into the three-phase life cycle that Wicca then took up. It is not unbroken antiquity. It is a twentieth-century synthesis that has since become genuinely load-bearing for a great many practitioners.

That does not make it lesser. What it holds is real: that a life has phases, that each has its own authority, and that the Crone is not a diminished Maiden but a woman who knows things the Maiden cannot. In a culture that reads women's ageing as loss, a theology that reads it as accumulation is doing serious work.

Scrying is genuinely old, and the mechanism is not mysterious. Hold an unfocused gaze on a featureless reflective field long enough and the visual system stops resolving; the brain, deprived of edges, begins supplying pattern of its own. Whether you read what surfaces as messages from elsewhere or as your own mind finally getting a word in edgewise, something does happen, and people have been using it for a very long time.

1. Dim the room. Competing light sources put reflections on the sphere, and reflections are exactly what you are trying to see past. One low light, or a candle set behind you.
2. Sit at eye level. Look into the sphere, not down at it.
3. Let your eyes go soft. Do not stare. You want an unfocused gaze held long enough that the field stops resolving. It takes minutes, and it cannot be hurried.
4. Write first, interpret later. Whatever surfaces evaporates the moment you look away. Keep paper.
5. Stop before you are tired. Scrying while exhausted mostly produces proof that you are exhausted.

Is the sphere real quartz? We do not know, and we will not claim it. Our supplier does not specify the material, and a genuine 100mm clear quartz sphere would cost far more than this whole piece does. Take it as a clear gazing sphere. If the material is important to you, contact us before ordering and we will ask.

Does that matter for scrying? Practically, no. Scrying needs a clear, featureless field to lose focus in. Black mirrors, still water, and polished obsidian have all been used for centuries, and none of them are quartz.

Is the Triple Goddess ancient? Not in this form. The Maiden-Mother-Crone structure was shaped by Robert Graves in 1948 and entered Wicca from there. It draws on older triple figures, but the three-phase arrangement is modern.

Does the sphere lift out of the base? It is designed to sit in the cast base. If you want it underlit, the separate lit stand is made for that.

How big is it really? About nine inches tall overall. This is a centrepiece, not a shelf ornament.
