Sharing a cup is one of the oldest gestures of hospitality and affection there is, and a tea blended for love leans on that more than on any property of the herbs. What the botanicals bring is a long folk record: lavender for peace, jasmine for warmth and joy, myrtle as the plant of Venus, clove for heat, and damiana, which has carried an aphrodisiac reputation in Mexican folk practice for a very long time.

We would rather be plain about what that reputation is worth. Damiana's traditional standing is real; the evidence for it doing anything pharmacological is thin, and we make no claim that it does. What a shared pot of tea reliably provides is an unhurried hour with somebody, which is not nothing, and which has probably done more for more romances than any herb ever has.

1. Bring water just off the boil, and warm the pot.
2. Steep a spoonful per cup for five minutes or so, to taste.
3. Name the warmth you are inviting, if the brewing is part of a working.
4. Share it. That is what the blend is for.
5. Store the rest sealed, cool, and dark.
