Ifá is among humanity's great bodies of sacred knowledge: the Yoruba divination tradition whose corpus of 256 Odu, each carrying its verses, stories, and prescriptions, has been recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the world's intangible heritage. Within it, the òpẹ̀lẹ̀ is the babalawo's everyday instrument, faster than the sacred palm nuts reserved for the deepest consultations: one practiced cast yields a complete Odu, read from the pattern of faces fallen open and closed, and the diviner's training does the rest, drawing on years of memorized verses and initiatory instruction.

We honor that structure plainly. Ifá is an initiatory tradition; the reading of the Odu belongs to those trained within it, in Yorubaland and throughout the diaspora lineages of Cuba, Brazil, and beyond, where the chain is known as the ekuele. We offer this chain as the traditional instrument it is, for initiated diviners, students under proper elders, shrines, and the honoring of the tradition, and we do not publish instructions for a practice whose teachers are living people.
