Protection is the condition-oil family's oldest department: the blend applied to what guards, so the guard remembers its job. In practice that means white or black candles dressed before warding work, amulets and mojo bags fed a drop when they take up their post, a thin line drawn along a doorframe or windowsill in the threshold custom, and the corners of a petition paper touched before it goes under the candle.
