Four inches, cut into a crescent. A shaped and polished piece with the druzy interior exposed along the curve, sized to be the centre of an altar rather than an accent on it.

A geode is a stone that is hollow, and that is the entirety of its symbolism. Something plain enough on the outside to walk past opens onto a cavity packed with crystal. Every tradition that has ever picked one up has read the same lesson from it: the interior is not the exterior, what is hidden may be finer than what shows, and finding out requires breaking something open.

Agate is the workhorse of the chalcedony family, carved and worn since antiquity, worked in folk practice for steadiness and grounding. It is not a dramatic stone and has never claimed to be.

The crescent cut is a modern lapidary decision and the aura coating is a modern process. We are not going to lend either one ancient authority. What you have is a beautiful object, described honestly, and wanting a beautiful object needs no justification.

1. Put it where light reaches it. The coating is iridescent and needs light to do anything at all. In a dark corner it is a grey rock.
2. Use it as a lunar marker. The crescent cut makes it a natural centrepiece for moon work, whatever you make of the coating.
3. No salt, no abrasives. The coating is a thin bonded layer and salt will scrub it dull. Smoke, sound, or moonlight.
4. No ultrasonic cleaners. Which sounds obvious, and is nonetheless exactly how treated stones get ruined.
5. Handle it by the body, not the crust. Druzy points are small and they snap off.

Is the rainbow colour natural? No. Agate druzy is naturally white, grey, or clear. The metallic iridescence is a coating, made by bonding a vapourised metal to the crystal surface. The stone underneath is genuine agate; the colour on top is not something the earth did.

Does that make it fake? No, and we would not stock it if we thought so. It is a real Brazilian agate geode with a decorative treatment, which is an entirely ordinary product. The dishonest thing would be not telling you.

How is this different from the 3 inch? Size, and nothing else. Same material, same cut, same treatment. Four inches is a centrepiece; three is an accent.

Will the coating wear off? It is bonded to the surface and stable in normal display and handling. It will not survive salt, abrasives, or ultrasonic cleaning.

What if I want untreated agate? Buy the natural tumbled agate instead. No coating, no treatment. We would rather send you there than sell you something you did not actually want.
