Readers have always kept their cards deliberately. The old folklore prescribed silk wraps and wooden boxes, and whatever one makes of the reasons, the habit endures because it works on every level at once: a dedicated box protects the cards, marks them as set apart from ordinary clutter, and gives the practice a small ceremony of opening and closing.
