The Apothecary Rose
Rosa gallica is the rose the old world worked with: the apothecary rose of medieval gardens, parent of the damasks and centifolias, its deep red petals the ones ground into the trade's earliest perfumes and confections. The magical file is the rose's own regardless of species, Venus and Water in Cunningham, love at the head of the powers with psychic work, healing, luck, and protection alongside, and the 2 oz packet suits the shelf practice: a season of love sachets, buds for the candle dish, a handful for the bath custom. The petals draw nothing on their own, as we always say plainly; they carry the tradition's oldest love file in its oldest cultivated color.
