Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek moon goddess, for the pearly glow the mineral carries, and modern crystal practice files it as the great cleansing stone, the one used to clear other stones and spaces, associated with light, clarity, and calm. The orange variety adds warmth to that register, and the tradition reads it toward the sacral notes of creativity and ease. A sphere is the contemplative cut: light travels through the curve, the hand rests around it, and gazing practice gets its steadiest form. We make no claims about electromagnetic anything, because honest stone needs no such résumé. The sphere holds light and the tradition's register; the practice, as ever, is yours.

1. Set it on a stand where lamp or window light can move through it.
2. Hold it for gazing and settling practice; the curve suits both palms.
3. Rest smaller stones beside it, the tradition's cleansing custom.
4. Keep it strictly dry: dust with a soft cloth, cleanse with smoke, sound, or moonlight, never water.

Why must selenite stay dry?

Selenite is gypsum, soft and water-soluble enough that soaking dulls and eventually damages it. Dust it, and cleanse with smoke, sound, or moonlight only.

Where does the orange come from?

Natural iron and hematite inclusions in the deposit, Morocco is the classic source, no dye required.

Will it scratch?

Easily, at Mohs 2: keep it apart from harder stones and handle it as the soft, luminous thing it is.
