Septarian's story is written on its face. The nodule formed as mud gathered around something and hardened; as it dried it cracked from the inside out, and over long ages mineral-rich water filled those cracks with calcite, healing the stone shut along its own fracture lines. That, unsurprisingly, is what modern crystal practice has fastened on: a stone that cracked and was filled back in, kept for patience, steadiness, and the long, slow work of holding together. These attributions are contemporary rather than traditional, and we file them as such; septarian appears in no Cunningham entry and carries no old folk record.

The palm-stone form adds the plainest posture in the practice: a stone closed in the hand while you sit, walk, or wait. It is the crystal shelf's most honest object, asking nothing but to be held.

Is septarian a jasper?

No. It is often sold as one, but septarian is a sedimentary concretion, a mud nodule that cracked and had its cracks filled with calcite, rather than a jasper, which is a chalcedony. We label it as what it is.

What are the golden veins?

Calcite, and sometimes brown aragonite, deposited over long ages into cracks that opened as the original nodule dried and contracted. The pattern is the stone's own healing written into it.
