Garuda is one of the living world's great sacred figures, and we present him with the deference an active devotion deserves. In Hindu tradition he is the king of birds and the vahana, the mount, of Vishnu himself, born mighty enough to steal amrita from the gods and famed as the implacable foe of the serpent nagas, which made him from antiquity the remover of poisons, obstacles, and hidden harm. Buddhist traditions honor him across their own canons, and his standing endures far beyond the temple: Garuda is the national emblem of Indonesia and the royal symbol of Thailand, a figure whose wings still cover nations.

Devotional practice keeps him for protection above all: Garuda imagery guards thresholds and travelers, and his invocation addresses the serpentine class of troubles, the slow poisons, the entangling obstacles, the harm that approaches low.
