The lodestone is naturally magnetic iron ore, and Hoodoo has worked it as a drawing curio for as long as the tradition has existed: a stone that literally pulls things toward itself, used to draw money, love, luck, or customers. The logic is direct, which is very much the tradition's style. What makes the lodestone unusual on the curio shelf is that it is not treated as an inert object but as something kept: named, dressed, prayed over, and fed.

Feeding is done with magnetic sand. A pinch is sprinkled onto the stone, where it clings and bristles along the magnetic lines, and the practitioner names what they are drawing while they do it. Some feed weekly, some on a particular day, some whenever they ask the stone for something. The visible gathering of grit is part of the point: you can see the stone taking what you give it. Hoodoo is a living African American tradition; to go deeper with lodestone work, learn from its own teachers and practitioners.
