A carrier oil is the plainest tool on the shelf, and one of the most necessary. Concentrated ritual and essential oils are too strong to put on skin undiluted; the carrier is what makes them wearable, and it is what turns a few drops of an expensive blend into a working supply. Jojoba is the usual choice because it is light, stable, and slow to spoil.

Spiritually, it takes the intention you give it. Anointing itself is an old practice, marking a body, an object, or a threshold with oil as a way of setting something apart and naming what it is for. Jojoba is the medium for that: it carries whatever you blend into it, whether that is a condition oil, a botanical you have infused yourself, or nothing at all but the intention you speak as you apply it. What is a carrier oil for?
