There is nothing mystical about a jar, and we would rather not pretend otherwise. What there is, is the practical fact that most herb magic depends on herbs that still have something left in them. Volatile oils are what carry a botanical's scent, and they escape steadily once a herb is exposed to air. A resin left open goes dull. A blend left loose in a bag ends up as dust in the bottom.
