What You'll Find Here
Black Tourmaline. The stone modern crystal practice treats as the all-purpose protector, said to absorb negativity. It comes as worry stones, hearts, bracelets, and pendulums for a front door, a pocket, or a desk.
Black Obsidian. Volcanic glass, read in the lore as a mirror that turns harm back. The collection has obsidian bracelets in 4mm to 10mm beads, pentacle pendants, and scrying mirrors from 10 centimeters to 8 inches.
Hematite. A heavy, metallic iron stone tied to grounding and to shielding the body, and kept by the bed against nightmares. Tumbled stones by the pound, rainbow hematite, rings, rune sets, and bracelets are all here.
Smoky Quartz and Jet. Smoky quartz is the gentle grounder, for a living room or a bedside. Jet is the oldest protection material on the list, worn against the evil eye and in grief.
Labradorite and Amethyst. Labradorite is worn to shield the aura, and crystal practice gives it to empaths. Amethyst guards sleep and repairs the aura in the old lore, and comes here as geodes, pendants, and rune sets.
Black Onyx and Tiger's Eye. Black onyx is the stone of self-control under pressure, worn as a ring or a bracelet. Tiger's eye is the watchful stone, carried in the car or on a keychain against the evil eye.
Pyrite and Shungite. Pyrite, or fool's gold, sits on a desk or a cash box to turn away ill will and guard money. Shungite is a black, carbon-rich stone kept as a grounding desk stone. No stone blocks electromagnetic fields, including shungite.
Selenite and Clear Quartz. Selenite cleanses the other stones and is set in doorways. It is soft and dissolves in water, so keep it dry. Clear quartz seals and amplifies any protection, at the points of a grid or on a windowsill.
Moonstone, Malachite, and Turquoise. These are the travelers' stones. Moonstone is kept in a glove box or a travel bag for journeys by night. Malachite is the old warning stone for travelers; carry it polished, and never sand or soak it, because its dust contains copper. Turquoise is the riders' amulet against the evil eye, and the African turquoise pieces here are a different stone sold under that trade name.
Citrine, Garnet, Bloodstone, Amber, and Nuummite. Citrine pairs protection with optimism in the money corner of a home. Scott Cunningham lists garnet as worn against thieves and nightmares, and bloodstone is the soldier's stone of courage. Amber, the fossil resin, is the old protection for children; keep it out of a baby's mouth, and never use an amber teething necklace. Nuummite, the sorcerer's stone, is carried for strong psychic shielding.
Fluorite, Lapis Lazuli, and Carnelian. Fluorite is the study and focus shield, lapis lazuli is the ancient amulet stone of truth-tellers, and carnelian is carried for courage.
How to Choose and Use Protection Crystals
Start with what you want protected. For a home, set black tourmaline or smoky quartz by the front door and on the windowsills, where protection stones belong at the edges. For yourself, wear a tough stone every day: black tourmaline, hematite, or smoky quartz on the left wrist, the side tradition gives to protection coming in. For sleep, keep hematite or amethyst on the nightstand. For psychic and spiritual protection, choose labradorite to wear or a black obsidian mirror for an altar.
Cleanse protection stones more often than any other kind, about once a week for a stone in daily use, because in the lore they hold what they keep off you. Smoke, moonlight, and a selenite slab work for all of them. A rinse in water is fine for tourmaline, obsidian, quartz, and hematite, but keep jet and selenite dry.

Frequently Asked Questions
What crystals are good for protection?
Black tourmaline, black obsidian, hematite, black onyx, smoky quartz, and jet are the core protection stones, and amethyst, labradorite, tiger's eye, and lapis lazuli are close behind. Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic lists protection as a power of more stones than any other purpose.
What is the strongest crystal for protection?
Black tourmaline in modern practice, and black obsidian in older traditions. Judy Hall's The Crystal Bible names tourmaline first as the protector against negativity, and obsidian has been used as a mirror-shield since the Aztecs. Many practitioners keep both.
Where should I put protection crystals in my home?
At the edges: by the front door, on windowsills, and at the corners of a room. A common room setup is four clear quartz points at the corners pointing outward with a black tourmaline at the center.
Which wrist should I wear a protection bracelet on?
The left wrist, which tradition treats as the receiving side, is the usual choice for protection coming in. Wear tough stones every day, such as black tourmaline, hematite, onyx, or smoky quartz, and wear obsidian and jet gently, since both chip.
Can protection crystals go in water?
Black tourmaline, obsidian, onyx, quartz, and hematite can be rinsed. Selenite and salt dissolve, malachite should never be soaked, and jet can crack, so keep those dry.
Do protection crystals actually work?
They work as a practice: a boundary you can see and touch, a reminder to hold your own edge, and a ritual that steadies you. No crystal replaces a locked door, a doctor, or a call for help when the danger is real.
