Gaspeite is one of the few stones on any shelf whose scarcity is simple fact: a nickel carbonate first described on Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula in 1966, commercially sourced almost entirely from a handful of Western Australian nickel mines whose gaspeite has largely been worked out, which makes honest pieces steadily harder to find and worth naming accurately, a nickel mineral, not a calcite, its apple green the color of the metal itself. Southwestern jewelers took to it decades ago beside turquoise and coral, and the crystal tradition files the green under heart-forward luck and good fortune. Bezel-set in sterling at size 6, it is the drawer's conversation piece with a real story.
