Palo is a living Afro-Cuban tradition with roots in Central African Congo religion, carried across the Atlantic and kept through generations in Cuba and its diaspora. Within it, the chamalongos are a casting oracle: the discs are thrown and the pattern of face-up and face-down pieces is read as the answer to what was asked.
